Dental crowns are used to protect teeth that have chipped off, are discoloured, worn down or in need of reinforcement. If it is apparent that you tooth can not be restored conservatively, we will advise that the best option to preserve the tooth is by installing a crown. Our centre is committed to providing you with natural looking crowns that blend with your smile and help you forget you even have them.
Several different types of crowns are currently available on the market: full porcelain, porcelain fused to metal and full metal crowns. We will suggest and explain which option would be the most suitable and long-lasting for you and your situation.
After you select a prosthetic solution, we will dedicate two or three visits to the procedure, depending on the type of crowns you have chosen.
During the first session we will begin by shaping your teeth and removing any existing tooth decay to prepare the teeth for bearing the new crowns. We will then make an impression of all your teeth which we will later send to the dental laboratory where the final crowns will be fabricated.
While your crowns are being prepared, our office will provide you with temporary crowns which mimic your natural teeth as closely as possible. You don't need to worry that your teeth will be missing, you can continue your day as usual.
During your second visit we will make sure that the newly fabricated crowns are a good fit for your teeth and face. We will also check the colouration of the teeth, which needs to mimic the colour of the adjacent teeth to make the crowns truly unnoticeable. Finally, we will cement the crowns to your teeth to conclude the process and give you a wonderful new smile.
