Aesthetic Porcelain Veneers

A dramatic improvement of your smile can be achieved quickly and simply with the use of porcelain veneers. Veneers are a way of changing the appearance of your teeth by hiding discoloured, uneven or improperly shaped teeth behind thin layers of porcelain, made to measure in a laboratory to match your other teeth perfectly. Veneers have the appearance of natural teeth, they are durable and long-lasting. They are the prefect solution for people who wish to have a perfect smile without a radical invasive procedure. Veneers are often used as an aesthetic solution for the upper front teeth.

When are veneers used?

Veneers can be used to improve a number of different conditions in the oral cavity. They are a good choice for covering up discoloured or stained teeth, for minimizing a gap between teeth (diastema), in the case of extensive tooth decay and large fillings on front teeth, for corrections of shorter or improperly shaped teeth and for several other orthodontic irregularities.

• Tooth discolouration: various types of pigmentation or demineralization can create the appearance of stained teeth;
• caries or tooth decay on the labial surface of front teeth, where an aesthetic long-term solution using only fillings is difficult;
• extensive fillings on front teeth, which change colour through the years;
• small, short teeth: some people have a genetic predisposition for this shape of teeth, but the condition can also be a consequence of a small injury to the tooth, enamel fracture;
• a gap between front teeth is usually an indication for braces, but small corrections can successfully be made with veneers;
• minor orthodontic irregularities: slightly twisted teeth that are not in line with the smile.

How are porcelain veneers placed?

Two visits to the dentist are usually required due to the extremely precise nature of the procedure.

The first session begins with a slight (painless) preparation of the teeth, followed by an impression of the teeth in a soft silicone material. Sometimes the teeth need to be slightly whitened due to excessive pigmentation. A temporary protective veneer is put into place.

The proper veneers are permanently adhered to the teeth with a special procedure during the second session. The patient is then ready to face new challenges with a smile.

In some cases, the procedure can have three phases – in this case a preliminary session is added to make a diagnostic wax model and a plan for the final appearance of the teeth. This procedure is used in complicated cases or at the patient's special request.
